Population movements within its borders represent a major difficulty in a sensitive area where new conflicts (with Kurdistan or Turkey) are feared and could lead to new massive displacements of populations and Syrian refugees, particularly in the Dohuk governorate.<\/p>\r\nSince the 2014 genocide perpetrated against the Yazidi community, thousands of women and children have been abducted and subjected to sexual assaults and other atrocities. Several years later, some villages still have not been demined, and reconstruction is expected to be slow as the region is neglected by the government.
