And when they do, most private insurances do not cover or only partially cover sexual and reproductive health services.

Consequences for Individuals and Society

Being deprived of essential sexual and reproductive health services has serious individual consequences for the safety, health, and well-being of these women and their families.

They go without prevention advice, support, accompaniment, screening, diagnosis, care, and treatment. Their health deteriorates, and some must stop working or can no longer adequately care for their families.

Having to pay for essential health services creates an economic burden that reduces women’s budgets and forces them to make difficult choices. This can increase their financial dependence on their spouse or employer for paying for their care and may worsen existing situations of violence.

Lack of access to timely services also increases costs and pressure on the health system. The precariousness of these families also impacts other sectors of society: social services, employment, immigration, early childhood, the school system, and the community sector.

The lack of insurance coverage for these essential services thus leads to serious, frequent, costly, and preventable collective consequences.

A Solution Exists, Backed by Strong Medical and Social Consensus

This humane and effective solution is supported by around sixty organizations: guarantee all women living in Quebec RAMQ insurance coverage so they can access essential sexual and reproductive health services.

Why Provide Health Insurance Coverage to All Women?

To prevent serious and avoidable health problems

To reduce vulnerability, fear, and stigmatization linked to immigration status

To ease pressure on the health system

To address social inequalities in health and promote integration into society

To combat gender inequalities and support women who are victims of violence

So why deprive ourselves of it?

Be Part of the Solution!

Everyone can play a role by first learning more about this public health and gender equality issue, by talking about it, and by raising awareness.

To learn more, consult the report!

["facebook","twitter","linkedin","email","copy
["GET
