Doctors of the World has distributed 400 hygiene kits to cover the most urgent needs of 2,400 people in the Nuseirat displaced persons camp, administered by UNRWA, the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees. <\/p>\n

More than 1.4 million people have been internally displaced in Gaza, and the shelters managed by UNRWA exceed their capacity by four times. The drinking water available for all uses (drinking, cooking, toilet and cleaning) barely reaches an average of 3 litres per person per day. <\/p>\n
With the current overcrowding, maintaining minimum hygiene and sanitation conditions is essential to reduce the risks of diseases and epidemics, as well as to ensure the dignity of individuals. <\/p>\n
On October 31, intense airstrikes hit the Jabalia refugee camp, destroying an entire neighbourhood of 30 residential buildings. Fifty people were killed, and many are still trapped under the rubble. A staggering number of injured cannot be treated due to the devastated state of hospitals. Under such conditions, medical staff must perform surgical operations without anaesthesia. Healthcare workers are operating in more than deplorable conditions. As sanitary conditions worsen and fatigue accumulates, caregivers are overwhelmed by an extreme shortage of resources, exacerbated by the blockade and a largely insufficient supply of humanitarian aid. <\/p>\n
This is the daily reality in the Gaza Strip, where over 8,525 people have lost their lives in the past three weeks. Doctors of the World is appalled by the lack of firm, urgent and unwavering intervention from the international community, as international humanitarian law is constantly violated.
