How is the right to abortion implemented in our field programs?<\/h2>\n

As part of International Development Week, M\u00e9decins du Monde invites you to a film-debate around the documentary \"Our Silences - An te Kouman\" on Thursday, February 1st, starting at 5:30 PM at the Goethe-Institut, in the presence of the international operations directors of the M\u00e9decins du Monde network.<\/p>\n

In 2019, M\u00e9decins du Monde conducted an in-depth study on the \npractices and consequences of clandestine abortions in C\u00f4te d'Ivoire, \nfrom which the documentary \"Our Silences\" by Gr\u00e9goire Couvert emerged.<\/p>\n

Although the documentary is set in C\u00f4te d'Ivoire, its message \nresonates on a global scale. <\/strong>Wherever abortion is prohibited or \nrestricted, the realities, consequences, and women's voices echo one \nanother.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each year, 121 million women worldwide face an unintended pregnancy, and 60% of them decide to terminate it.<\/p>\n

Despite the World Health Organization\u2019s recognition of \nabortion as an essential health service, 45% of abortions performed \nworldwide are not medically supervised, resulting in the deaths of \n39,000 women each year, not to mention the 7 million others hospitalized \ndue to complications.<\/p>\n

The Event<\/h2>\n

In the presence of the international operations directors of the M\u00e9decins du Monde network, this film-debate offers a unique opportunity to explore the implementation of the right to abortion through our various programs, which adapt to challenging contexts, whether due to restrictive laws, a lack of appropriate, accessible, and quality services, or persistent and stigmatizing prejudices.<\/p>\n
