Over these five years in the field, M\u00e9decins du Monde has provided primary health care to more than 2,300 families, totalling nearly 8,500 people.","cta_type":"aucun","cta_lien":"","contenu":"<p>Five years ago, on 14 and 15 March 2019, the Mozambican province of Sofala was <strong>hit by the powerful Cyclone Idai<\/strong>, which then spread to other regions of the country, causing <strong>602 deaths, 1,641 injured and over 1.8 million displaced persons<\/strong>. The enormous consequences of the disaster are still reflected today in the lives of many communities. <\/p>\n<p>Immediately after the storm, <strong>M\u00e9decins du Monde went into the field, alongside other national and international organisations<\/strong>, to respond to most of the population's essential needs. The organisation is still present in Sofala province, where it provides primary health care in areas such as infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health monitoring and vaccinations to more than <strong>2,300 families, or nearly 8,500 people, in four resettlement sites<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Five years after Idai, <strong>the population remains in a situation of great vulnerability and depends on the support of humanitarian organisations<\/strong> to meet its basic needs. Their health and well-being are jeopardised by various factors: high levels of poverty, fragile infrastructure and the effects of climate change with periodic flooding and tropical cyclones.<\/p>\n<h2>\"It is necessary to continue this response to the enormous needs of the Mozambican population, by guaranteeing access to primary health care, promoting education and awareness-raising of individuals on health-related issues and the empowerment of communities, investing in the training of health professionals and contributing to the strengthening of health infrastructures,\" says Carla Paiva, Executive Director of M\u00e9decins du Monde Portugal.<\/h2>\n<p>\"To achieve this, it is essential to strengthen cooperation, mobilise more funds and ensure that the efforts made have not been in vain, which is only possible with continuous support for the projects of organisations and the excellent work of the teams in the field,\" she adds.<\/p>\n<h2>Over 63,000 medical consultations in five years<\/h2>\n<p>After a few months of emergency response, M\u00e9decins du Monde took over in 2019 the coordination and support of the Ndeja resettlement site, located in the Nhamatanda district, where <strong>402 families had been resettled, totalling 2,344 people<\/strong>.
