Collaborating with the persons accompanied<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s so obvious that we could almost forget it: the very first collaboration is the one that unites the workers and the person accompanied. Andr\u00e9anne, a nurse on the mobile clinic and partner of Farin, a peer support worker<\/em> in harm reduction<\/em>, explains that the care protocol is decided by the three of them. \u201cWe talk to each other, we present two or three options to the <\/em>person: it\u2019s often a mix of what one and the other had in mind. Then, we don\u2019t impose anything: we discuss it with her, and she determines what suits her best.\u201d Care becomes \u201ca discussion<\/em>\u201d in which the persons primarily concerned have their say: an asset for regaining confidence and reclaiming power over the situation.<\/p>\n

Collaborating with the health system<\/h2>\n

Another collaboration that makes as much sense as the first: the one that brings M\u00e9decins du Monde closer to the actors in the health system. When he explains it, Farin refers to this \u201cmandate<\/em>\u201d that consists of \u201ccreating access points<\/em>\u201d between worlds that know and understand each other poorly: people living in the \u201cstreet culture<\/em>\u201d on one side, and medicine on the other. Mathieu and Lucie-Catherine, who accompany Indigenous<\/em> persons, echo this sentiment. Together, the duo tries to \u201crebuild<\/em> trusting relationships<\/em>\u201d between \u201ctraumatized communities<\/em> and hospital services.\u201d<\/p>\n

Collaborating with community organizations<\/h2>\n

The connections our teams create don\u2019t stop there. They extend to community organizations, other key players in the support network for M\u00e9decins du Monde\u2019s users. There, our psychotherapists offer workers a space to step back from the sometimes challenging situations they witness. Pierre, who developed our psychotherapy services for workers, sums it up: \u201cthe original spirit was to take care of those who take care of others.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n
