In Lebanon alone, over 810,000 people, including approximately 290,000 children, have been forced to leave their homes.

The hostilities have affected 14 countries to date, destroying or damaging schools, hospitals, health centres, and energy infrastructure.

Humanitarian Coalition members are scaling up their interventions by providing food, clean water, emergency health services, temporary shelters, financial assistance, and psychosocial support to families in Lebanon and Syria. Member organizations are also monitoring the situation and strengthening their actions to address urgent needs in Afghanistan, Gaza and the West Bank, Iraq, Jordan, and Turkey.

The Humanitarian Coalition urges leaders to end the violence and find a solution that respects the rights, dignity, and security of everyone. All parties must take steps to protect civilians, especially children and families.

Quotes:

Tiffany Baggetta - Executive Director of the Humanitarian Coalition

“The escalation of military violence shattering lives across the region deeply alarms us. At this time, humanitarian needs are skyrocketing. We are making an urgent appeal to the generosity of Canadians to donate today to support humanitarian aid for children and families affected by this conflict.”

Manon Hourdin - Director of International Operations and Strategic Development, Doctors of the World Canada

“The conflict is intensifying and spreading rapidly. In several countries in the region, thousands of civilians and humanitarian workers find themselves trapped, and their lives are at serious risk. We remind all parties to the conflict that under international humanitarian law, they are obligated to protect them. Medical and humanitarian infrastructure must also be preserved. Now more than ever, supporting humanitarian organizations like Doctors of the World and its partners is essential to enable populations in need to access vital health care across the region.”

Béatrice Vaugrante - Executive Director of Oxfam-Québec

“Today, I am appealing to the solidarity of Quebeckers: the situation in Lebanon is rapidly deteriorating and has reached a dramatic level. Massive bombings have forced thousands of families to flee their homes and abandon everything they owned. Many now find themselves living in makeshift shelters with very few resources. Support from Quebec is essential to enable Oxfam and its partners to provide life-saving assistance. Oxfam and its partners are also ready to support affected populations in all countries where the organization is present if hostilities were to spread further in the Middle East.”

Anne Delorme - Executive Director of Humanity & Inclusion Canada

“The current situation in the Middle East is catastrophic. The escalation in the region will further increase the already significant presence of unexploded ordnance in countries like Lebanon, where explosive weapons with an estimated failure rate of 10% are being used, raising the risk of long-term harm to civilians. Such crises not only reinforce existing vulnerabilities but also lead to an increase in the number of persons with disabilities. Humanity & Inclusion teams are present in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, and Iraq, where they provide essential support to those in need, ensuring that persons with disabilities and the most vulnerable are not left behind in crises like this. We call on all parties to protect civilians, respect humanitarian law and humanitarian workers, avoid striking vital infrastructure, and urgently end the violence.”

About the Humanitarian Coalition

The Humanitarian Coalition brings together 12 leading aid organizations to provide Canadians with a simple and effective way to help during major international humanitarian crises.
