The photo report by Belgian photographer Christophe Smets documents the consequences of restricted access to health care for women in Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

SaKiFe Photographic Exhibition in Quebec City

For the first time in North America, the National Assembly of Quebec is hosting the SaKiFe exhibition (Kivu: Women and Health) from March 6 to 30, 2023, as part of Francophonie Month.

Presented in partnership with the Wallonia-Brussels General Delegation in Quebec and Doctors of the World Canada, the photo report is based on snapshots of the lives of women health care providers, patients, and survivors of sexual violence by armed groups, particularly in connection with the work of Dr. Denis Mukwege, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

The exhibition takes place from:

  • March 6 to 30
  • At the National Assembly of Quebec

The opening event will be held on March 8, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, in the presence of the photographer.

Biographical Notes

Christophe Smets is the founder of the Luna collective and La Boîte à Images.

Born in 1972, he graduated from the Saint-Luc Institute in Liège, Belgium. Passionate about committed photojournalism, he is also a great lover of travel.
