After two years of genocidal war, months of blockade and famine, this agreement brings a glimmer of hope for the people of Gaza as well as the hostages and their families.
However, we know that this agreement is fragile. Twice already, since October 2023, the hope for peace has emerged. Each time, it has given way to an outburst of violence against the civilian population of Gaza, as well as a total blockade leading the people of Gaza toward famine. This is why Doctors of the World calls for a permanent ceasefire. Respect for the agreement’s terms by the parties, including the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, is the only solution to consider lasting peace.
The priority now, to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza, must be the lifting of all restrictions and the massive entry of humanitarian convoys to meet the immense needs of the population.
Doctors of the World already has a mobile clinic and 115 pre-positioned pallets at the border, ready to deliver medicines and medical supplies.
We also call on the Israeli and American authorities to put an end as soon as possible to the food distribution system created in February 2025 under the name Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Indeed, every distribution organized by GHF has resulted in dozens of civilian deaths, in total disregard of international humanitarian law. We condemn the instrumentalization of aid for political purposes and its transformation into a weapon of war. We call on all States to support aid based on humanitarian principles, delivered by impartial Palestinian and international organizations, and coordinated by the United Nations.
The international community must ensure the implementation of United Nations and International Court of Justice decisions.
The reconstruction of Gaza, particularly its health system, systematically targeted and destroyed by the Israeli army, must be a priority. It must also enable the urgent rehabilitation of hospitals and health centers. Doctors of the World teams are ready to support and contribute to this essential reconstruction effort, which must be led by Palestinians, alongside local and international NGOs.
