Why a coalition now?
In Québec, access to reproductive health services remains inequitable for many women and people experiencing precariousness, particularly those living without health insurance coverage due to their migrant status.
In response to these persistent inequalities, the Coalition aims to:
- Advocate for the effective right to reproductive health for all, regardless of migrant status;
- Promote free access to reproductive health services under public plans;
- Document the human, health, and social impacts of lack of access to care;
- Carry out coordinated advocacy actions with decision-making bodies;
- Raise public awareness and counter misinformation through a proactive communication strategy.
A strategic space for mobilization
The Coalition will be a structured space for pooling the clinical, community, legal, and public health expertise of its members.
It will enable the coordination of advocacy actions, the production of analyses, and the broad mobilization of civil society around a fundamental principle: reproductive health is a right, not a privilege conditional on migrant status.
Clear recommendations, an ongoing urgency
In 2022, Médecins du Monde Canada published the brief “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights – SRHR of women living in Québec: The urgency of acting to ensure access to public health insurance plans for all women, regardless of their migrant status”.
The findings and recommendations made at the time remain strikingly relevant. The Coalition intends to continue and amplify this work to achieve lasting structural changes.

To support the implementation of its work, the Coalition is currently recruiting a project officer.
This strategic position will have the mandate to:
- Coordinate the Coalition’s governance and activities
- Support advocacy and communications actions
- Ensure the follow-up of partnerships and deliverables
