In September 2025, Doctors of the World Canada is marking ten years of its mental health program for people experiencing homelessness in Montreal. This conference brings together practitioners, researchers, people with lived experience and community partners to reflect on today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities.
Since 2015, the mental health team at DotW Canada has been providing outreach psychosocial care to those most excluded from the health system — on the street, in shelters, in community spaces. This conference is an opportunity to mark a decade of commitment and to look ahead.
About the conference
The day is built around presentations, round tables and testimonials. It brings together voices from the field — mental health professionals, social workers, people with lived experience of homelessness — alongside researchers and representatives of partner organizations.
The goal is twofold: to recognize the work accomplished over ten years, and to identify the challenges that persist in accessing mental health care for populations on the margins of the system.
This program is proof that a non-judgmental approach, rooted in trust, changes lives — one encounter at a time.

Ten years of the program
Since 2015, the mental health program of Doctors of the World Canada has supported thousands of people experiencing homelessness in Montreal through a non-judgmental, outreach-based clinical approach delivered by an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers and peer support workers.
This work was built in close partnership with the community organizations of Montreal’s network for people who are alone and experiencing homelessness (RAPSIM), street medicine teams and the city’s emergency shelters.
Practical information
The conference is free and open to health professionals, social workers, students and anyone interested in community mental health. A certificate of attendance can be provided on request.
