Outreach workers who support people experiencing homelessness often face challenges that are both complex and emotionally taxing.

PODCAST | Caring for the Mental Health of Community-Based Outreach Workers

Between constant stress, emotional fatigue, and daily exposure to distressing and painful realities, their work puts their resilience to the test.

Yet, to ensure the support and accompaniment they provide is of high quality, it is crucial to care for their mental health.

In this episode, we explore the impacts of specific stressors, such as an overwhelming workload or a glaring lack of resources.

We will discover the coping strategies put in place to deal with these pressures, as well as the resources available to support these essential workers.

How can we help them overcome these obstacles so they can continue to play their indispensable role with people experiencing homelessness?

Guests:

  • Mylène Demarbre, psychologist and clinical director of the mental health program at Médecins du Monde Canada
  • Anita Schoepp, outreach worker, Logis Phare
  • Justin Allard, street-based outreach worker, Cactus Montréal
