PODCAST | Health of Persons Experiencing Homelessness: Toward a More Inclusive System

Today, it is estimated that at least 10,000 people live on the streets across the province, but the actual number is likely higher.

Living in homelessness means facing daily challenges related to poor nutrition, cold, substance use issues, and mental health disorders, which significantly increase the risks of serious illnesses such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, or chronic conditions.

In addition to difficult living conditions, these individuals also encounter numerous barriers in accessing care. Stigmatization, the difficulty in maintaining valid health insurance coverage, and social and administrative obstacles further complicate their medical care.

The healthcare system, as currently designed, often fails to adequately meet their specific needs.

In this episode, we explore solutions to reach these disenfranchised individuals and provide them with care that is truly adapted to their living situation.

We also examine the necessary changes to make the healthcare system more inclusive and respectful of everyone’s rights, regardless of their situation.

How can we transform the current system to make it more inclusive and accessible while recognizing the dignity and rights of persons experiencing homelessness?
