The Darién Gap, nicknamed “The Death Route,” is one of the world’s most dangerous migration routes. Yet, thousands of families from all continents cross this vast jungle in search of greater safety and a dignified life in the United States or Canada.
Human trafficking, sexual violence, lack of water, food, and hygiene—it is hard to imagine the different forms of violence that migrants endure to reach our countries.
Moreover, the violence continues once they arrive. Refusal of asylum applications, abusive detentions, denial of access to health care, stigmatization… Even in Canada, the uphill battle continues for all these people.
While debates on immigration are ongoing and migration policies are becoming stricter, this episode explores the reality of those who place all their hopes in a journey that is sometimes one-way.
