Event in support of Doctors of the World: a fitting tribute to Dr. François Couturier

On May 10th, a wine and cheese tasting event in support of Doctors of the World Canada was organized by L'Échoppe des Fromages in tribute to Dr. François Couturier.

Event in support of Doctors of the World: a fitting tribute to Dr. François Couturier

One of Dr. Couturier’s wishes was to organize an event for Doctors of the World, aligning with the mission and values of our organization.

Max Dubois decided to take up the torch to pay tribute to his family doctor and organized a wine and cheese tasting to benefit Doctors of the World Canada.

The event was a great success – over CAD 7,500 was raised for Doctors of the World.

These donations will be used to support our efforts to provide care and assistance to the thousands of people experiencing homelessness in Montreal, a number that continues to grow in the current economic context of inflation.

Living in precariousness brings its share of daily anxiety and distress. People experiencing homelessness are extremely isolated and have often lived through various traumatic experiences.
They may thus feel anxious and depressed. Yet, even when they find the courage to ask for help, they generally face numerous access barriers, or even refusals, and the available services and care are often poorly adapted to their specific needs.

At Doctors of the World, we go directly to where they live – the streets and community organizations – to offer them care and support. Proximity and flexibility are at the heart of our approach, particularly through our mobile clinic, which travels through Montreal’s neighbourhoods alongside our peer support workers in harm reduction and our Indigenous navigation team.

Thanks to the generosity generated by this type of event, our team helps restore broken connections: those that the person must rebuild with themselves, but also with society as a whole.

We would like to thank L’Échoppe des Fromages as well as everyone who attended – your support is invaluable! It is through such actions that we can continue to be the bridge between marginalized people and the healthcare system!
