The Maison Médecins du Monde: A New Chapter for Healing, Welcoming, and Bringing Together

Montreal, May 25, 2026 — Médecins du Monde Canada today inaugurates its very first building acquired since its founding, located at 6235 Saint-Hubert Street, in the heart of Plaza St-Hubert in Montreal. This acquisition marks both the official opening of a unique space dedicated to health and the organization's 30th anniversary.

The Maison Médecins du Monde: A New Chapter for Healing, Welcoming, and Bringing Together

Bringing together under one roof a clinic, psychosocial services, and coordination spaces, this location meets a need that is at once human, logistical, and economic. It provides a sustainable, accessible, and dignified space in the service of health and social justice, to support the actions carried out for the more than 3,000 people who benefit from the organization’s services in Montreal each year. Among them are migrants with precarious status and people experiencing homelessness and extreme precariousness.

This structuring project will allow the space to be doubled while reducing accommodation costs. It will also provide spaces adapted to Médecins du Monde teams, including nurses, community workers, Indigenous navigators, peer support workers, and psychologists.

“This Maison is the culmination of 30 years of commitment, but above all the starting point of a new ambition: to go even further, with our partners and communities, to durably reduce health inequalities and guarantee everyone dignified access to care,” states Dr. David-Martin Milot, Chair of the Board of Directors of MdM Canada.

A Dream Made Possible Thanks to Exceptional Philanthropic Mobilization

The opening of the Maison Médecins du Monde was made possible thanks to the mobilization of major philanthropic partners, religious congregations, institutions, and committed donors, including the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation, the McConnell Foundation, Power Corporation of Canada, and the City of Montreal.

“By supporting the Maison Médecins du Monde, the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation wanted to contribute to a deeply human project, capable of taking concrete action where needs are immense. Today, it is imperative not only to treat poverty and exclusion but also to prevent them. This Maison will offer much more than care: it will create a space for welcome, stability, and dignity for thousands of people right here in Montreal,” says Marie-Josée Coutu, President of the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation.

“This Maison is proof that solidarity can build much more than walls: it creates possibilities. Thanks to the trust of committed partners, we are today strengthening our capacity to act sustainably for those whom systems too often leave behind,” emphasizes Nadja Pollaert, Executive Director of MdM Canada.
