Doctors of the World calls for respect for the obligations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

Retaliatory attacks against civilians, civilian property and buildings used for the protection of the population are always prohibited by the laws of war.

Heavily populated areas of Ukraine, including Dnipro, Kyiv, Lviv and Ternopil, have been hit by wide-area explosive weapons, resulting in several deaths and injuries.

Several properties have been destroyed, including a children’s playground, a pedestrian bridge and several houses. As civilians prepare for winter, damage to critical infrastructure has led to power outages disrupting communications as well as water and energy supplies.

These attacks come amid escalating tensions across the country. Several aid organizations have had to suspend their operations to ensure the safety of their staff and people in need of assistance, until it is safe to resume them.

Doctors of the World calls for respect for the obligations of international humanitarian law and human rights, as well as for the protection of civilians against ongoing hostilities.

Retaliation against civilians, property and buildings used for the protection of the population is always prohibited by the Geneva Convention.
