AN ORGANIZATION ALREADY PRESENT IN VENEZUELA SINCE 2019
Doctors of the World has been active in Venezuela since 2019 through humanitarian action and community health programs. In the first hours following the earthquake, the organization conducted a rapid needs assessment in coordination with local organizations, affected communities, and other humanitarian actors to identify intervention priorities.
URGENT NEEDS IDENTIFIED ON THE GROUND
The first hours after the earthquake identified several priority needs:
- Rescue and recovery of buried or at-risk individuals
- Emergency medical care for the injured
- Emergency shelter for displaced persons
- Psychosocial support for traumatized populations
- Restoration of health services and access to water
“At this moment, our priority is to support those affected by this emergency, particularly those in the most vulnerable situations. Our teams are gathering information on the ground to deploy the necessary assistance as quickly and effectively as possible.”
— Elena Cáceres, Doctors of the World Coordinator in Venezuela
