Mobilization for pregnant women without RAMQ: Doctors of the World at the Quebec National Assembly

On December 4, 2024, Doctors of the World was at the National Assembly for the tabling of the Québec solidaire bill and the Quebec Liberal Party’s petition for access to RAMQ for all pregnant women living in Quebec, regardless of their immigration status.

Mobilization for pregnant women without RAMQ: Doctors of the World at the Quebec National Assembly

Every year, several hundred women living in Quebec risk their health, their safety, and that of their child because they are excluded from the coverage of the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec due to their status.

“Denying pregnant women access to perinatal care because of their immigration status endangers their health and that of their children.” Penelope Boudreault, Director of National Operations and Nurse

“Doctors of the World welcomes the tabling of the petition and the bill, which reinforce the social and medical consensus of over a hundred organizations and institutions in Quebec. Denying pregnant women access to perinatal care because of their immigration status endangers their health and that of their children. We need concrete and immediate solutions for the health of all women in Quebec, without exclusion,” added Penelope Boudreault, Director of National Operations and Nurse for Doctors of the World Canada.

A great mobilization for the petition, thank you!

Over 3,000 of you responded to our mobilization to change the lives of these women by signing the petition, but the work is far from over.

We will continue to mobilize until the bill is passed. This situation is inhumane and unacceptable.

All women who are part of Quebec society should have access to perinatal care—it is a matter of the health of these women and their unborn children.
